John Deere 5En specialized tractors: three models up to 106 horsepower

John Deere expands its offering in the specialist tractor segment with the new John Deere 5En series, three models with power outputs ranging from 75 to 106 horsepower that combine the versatility of the traditional “5G” specialist tractors with the structural configuration of the higher-performance “5Ml” models

Until the end of 2025, John Deere’s specialist range was structured around two series, the “5G” and the “5Ml”. The former includes traditional orchard and vineyard tractors, diversified into four versions—“Gf”, “Gn”, “Gv” and “Gl”—depending on the mission profile, with low-profile configurations for working under pergola crops and minimum widths starting at 996 millimetres. Maximum power ratings between 75 and 115 horsepower allow them to tackle all the typical applications of specialist agriculture.

The latter, the “5Ml”, are more structurally robust specialist tractors, featuring a 2,300-millimetre wheelbase—longer than the 2,075 millimetres of the “5G” series—and offered with minimum widths of 1,550 millimetres and maximum power outputs between 110 and 136 horsepower. These machines are therefore well suited to supporting operations in wide-row orchards and vineyards, while also proving useful for general farm and livestock tasks thanks to the versatility of their basic configuration.

A broad and diversified offering, then, now further expanded by the US multinational with the debut of the new “5En” series: three models positioned between the “5G” and “5Ml” versions, borrowing the performance range from the former and the structure from the latter.

Named “5075En”, “5090En” and “5105En”, they are versatile, multi-purpose tractors featuring minimum widths of 1,400 millimetres and wheelbases of around 1,950 millimetres for the first model and 2,250 millimetres for the other two. These parameters are driven by the use of three- and four-cylinder engines delivering maximum power ratings between 75 and 106 horsepower.

The three-cylinder engine is a 2.9-litre unit from the “PowerTech Ewx” series and powers the entry-level “5075En”. The two higher-performance models are instead driven by 4.5-litre four-cylinder engines from the “PowerTech Pws” series, rated at 92 and 106 horsepower.

Both engine options share an engine speed memory function, allowing two preset speeds to be recalled at the push of a button during operations, as well as integration with the “PowrReverser” transmission featuring three ranges and four gears, providing operators with 12 forward and 12 reverse speeds.

Optionally, the transmission can be equipped with a hi-lo unit operating only on the forward gears, increasing the available ratios to 24+12, with reverse speeds selectable via an electrohydraulic shuttle.

In this configuration, the new “5En” models ensure high application versatility, aided by a split hydraulic system that provides 23 litres per minute on the “5075En” and 28 litres per minute on the other two versions for steering, plus a further 43 or 69 litres per minute to power up to five remote valves.

They also feature a two-speed PTO with 540 rpm in both standard and eco configurations, and a rear hitch with a maximum lift capacity of 2,400 kilograms. Electronically controlled for both position and draft, the rear hitch can optionally be paired with a similar front unit offering a maximum lift capacity of 1,350 kilograms.

Both hitches are easily managed via controls located on the right-hand console next to the driver’s seat, which places the operator inside a cab redesigned by John Deere engineers with a focus on improved rationality and ergonomics.

Optional on the “5075En” and standard on the “5090En” and “5105En”, the cab is also equipped with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster displaying all the main operating parameters, and with a category 2 filtration system against dust and pollutants, which can optionally be upgraded to category 4 approval for complete protection against aerosols and vapours.
