Yanmar has chosen to leverage the German trade fair to showcase to the world its most innovative and diversified propulsion solutions. Its compact and reliable diesel engines served as a tangible and timely commercial attraction, while the multifuel versions of the same engines represented a forward-looking vision. This vision includes both the near future—embodied by HVO fuels, biodiesel, and gas—and the more distant future, symbolized by hydrogen

This commitment was exemplified by the presence of a single engine model, the “4Tn101Fdt” series unit, which can run on all the aforementioned fuels by simply changing the cylinder head. This solution effectively allows each user to select the engine best suited to their specific application.

The traditional version of the engine was presented with HVO-derived diesel fueling—Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, a renewable biofuel made from vegetable oils and recycled animal fats—and delivered a rated power of 105 kilowatts at 2,200 rpm, equivalent to about 143 horsepower. The same engine, when powered by hydrogen to enable zero CO₂ emissions, produced 70 kilowatts, or approximately 95 horsepower, also at 2,200 rpm. As mentioned, while the engines differ in their operating cycles, they are structurally compatible. This enables a seamless transition from diesel to hydrogen without requiring users to make significant modifications to existing vehicles.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen was also the fuel used by a prototype electric generator labeled “Yhg3800,” capable of delivering 3.8 kilovolt-amperes at 230 volts and a frequency of 50 Hz. Meanwhile, a full electric integrated propulsion system developed entirely in-house by Yanmar was showcased through a mockup of a wheel loader. All components—batteries, motors, inverters, charging systems, and hardware/software control systems—were designed by Yanmar’s Research and Development division to create a complete and original solution that supports all customer electrification strategies.

Among the key features of the e-powertrain is Yanmar’s customizable platform, which allows the installation of standard components and software. This system makes it possible to integrate all the functions and characteristics required by each machine, while ensuring reduced development time and costs along with complete and total operational reliability. The platform also enables access to available telematics services, providing real-time diagnostics, predictive maintenance, over-the-air updates, smart charging, and much more.
