Tractors, John Deere takes a further step toward automating its tractors with the launch of the second generation of its autonomous management kit, available for all models in its catalog. Also presented was the “E-Power,” a prototype of a future battery-powered electric tractor

The second generation of the autonomous management kit developed by John Deere for use on all models from the Deer Brand will debut in Hanover. This development by the American multinational’s engineers represents a significant step forward compared to the first version presented in prototype form in 2022, which has been reworked and refined over the last three years using all the latest information technology to create the version presented at the German show.

It is no coincidence that the second-generation John Deere kit operates based on advanced computer vision systems, artificial intelligence solutions for data processing, and high-definition cameras. A technological ecosystem capable of equipping any type of John Deere tractor which, at Agritechnica 2025, was installed on a model from the top-of-the-range “9Rx” series.
The kit consists of 16 cameras that monitor the area around the machine, transmitting images in real time to a neural network that classifies individual pixels every 100 milliseconds to determine when the tractor should stop based on obstacle classification.

This is thanks to a second-generation artificial intelligence system that recognizes different application situations and different types of crops and soils, ensuring the machine can handle any type of operation and operate at higher speeds than the traditional ride-on version. The same network also monitors operating parameters, transferring them in real time to a cloud accessible from both the computers and mobile devices of company technicians, who can thus monitor the autonomous tractor’s work while they are working on another.
Also presented was the prototype of the “E-Power,” a 130-horsepower electric tractor based on a structure derived from the “5” series models. It is powered by three to five batteries produced by Kreisel Electric and equipped with the “Dynamic Performance Management” system, which optimizes range and efficiency by adjusting the cooling system. The machine can work with traditional attachments, while the modular chassis can create different mission profiles by playing with cabins, axles, and wheels.
