Launched in 2017 and now also available in Italy, JCB’s compact telescopic skid steer loader Jcb Teleskid 3Ts can still be ranked among the most innovative solutions presented by the British manufacturer in Germany.
Available in wheeled or tracked versions, its greatest strength lies in its versatility.
Not an absolute novelty, having been introduced back in 2017, it can nevertheless be considered one of the most innovative machines at the German trade show, as well as a new entry for the Italian market. We are talking about the “Teleskid 3Ts-8”, a compact skid steer loader equipped with a telescopic boom instead of the fixed side lift arms normally found on skid loaders, and available both with traditional wheeled drive and with tracked undercarriage. The wheeled version is designated “3Ts-8W”, while the tracked version is “3Ts-8T”.
Thanks to these features, and in particular to its telescopic boom made of high-strength steel, the Teleskid is not only capable of handling loads in the region of 1.5 to 1.7 tonnes, depending on the version, but can also lift loads between 600 and 700 kg to pin heights of over four metres. In effect, it is a true telescopic handler, yet with extremely compact dimensions comparable to those of mid-class skid steer loaders, and with the added ability to operate below ground level to depths of almost one metre.
It can swing, lift and dig, operations that are naturally supported by dedicated attachments mounted at the end of the boom and powered by a high-flow hydraulic system capable of delivering up to 126 litres of oil per minute. This flow, together with all other machine functions, is managed via two electro-hydraulic, multifunction joysticks with adjustable responsiveness, which also control steering and travel.
The absence of a traditional steering wheel ensures the operator has full, unobstructed visibility of the work area. At the same time, the four-post cab with full glass panels minimises horizontal blind spots, while a transparent roof hatch provides precision when working at height, and a rear-view camera fitted as standard ensures manoeuvring safety. The cab is also heated and air-conditioned as standard, with a ventilation system that prevents window fogging in cold weather, and it seats the operator on a pneumatically suspended, heated seat.
In terms of comfort, the Teleskid therefore gives nothing away to traditional telescopic handlers, with which it also shares side access and a powerful array of work lights, particularly useful for frequent night work or operation in poorly lit environments.
Power is provided by a drivetrain combining a single- or two-speed hydrostatic transmission with a 74 hp JCB “430 S5-055” engine delivering its output at 2,200 rpm. This calibration allows the machine to meet Stage V emission standards using only EGR, DOC and DPF systems, without the need for SCR technology and urea (AdBlue). This choice clearly benefits operating costs, further reduced by the presence of a large rear service door and the ability to tilt the cab forward to speed up maintenance operations, scheduled every 500 hours at engine level.
Designed in this way, and featuring a turning radius of around 1.5 metres, along with anti-pitch control and parallel lift functionality, the “Teleskid 3Ts” positions itself as a versatile and highly flexible machine, capable of operating both on the jobsite and in agricultural applications, and available at a lower investment cost than other machines offering similar working geometries and operating capacities.
