Krone ComPack Pro round balers: fast and efficient harvesting solution

Krone ComPack Pro round balers deliver best-in-class performance, representing the latest and most natural technological evolution of the well-established “Comprima Plus” series.

They are positioned as a fast and efficient harvesting solution aimed at contractors and large-scale farms

Those working in haymaking always keep one eye on the machine and the other on the sky. Even a passing storm can disrupt all scheduled plans. It is difficult, if not impossible, to harvest in the rain, and in any case wet forage cannot be collected immediately. It must dry, and the wait can last for days. For these reasons, when a working window opens, it is essential to make the most of it by completing operations as quickly as possible, relying on equipment with high hourly output, but also maneuverable in the field and easy to transport on the road.

With sector expertise that will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027—the first round baler was introduced in 1977—Krone responded last year to these needs with the launch of the “ComPack Pro” round balers. These machines are based on the experience gained with the “Comprima Plus,” introduced in 2019 as an evolution of the earlier “Comprima” series. The latter was specifically aimed at professional contractors and large farms, featuring reinforced components identified by the “X-treme” label, along with advanced features such as the ISOBUS platform and the option of integrated wrapping.

The new “ComPack Pro” models are therefore well-proven, robust, and also compact in size. They are available in two different models, each of which can be configured either as a standalone baler or combined with a wrapper. The first model, “ComPack F 155 XC Pro,” operates with a semi-variable chamber system, producing bales with diameters ranging from 125 to 150 centimeters. The “ComPack V 150 XC Pro,” on the other hand, uses a variable chamber system, producing bales with diameters of either 100 or 150 centimeters.

As mentioned, both models can be equipped with a wrapping system as the final stage of the process, resulting in the “ComPack CF 155 XC Pro” and “ComPack CV 150 XC Pro” versions. Apart from bale diameter, all new machines share standard features such as automatic oil and grease lubrication systems designed to minimize maintenance. They also include compressed air connections as standard, allowing dust and debris to be removed directly in the field.

Net wrapping systems are also standard, with the option of combined net and film systems. A key technical highlight is the “Novogrip” baling system, the only one on the market capable of operating with just two highly robust elevator belts made of rubberized fabric. These are connected by transverse metal bars, forming a structure driven by strong chain and gear transmissions that ensure a stable and efficient compression process.

The system operates with adjustable working pressures controlled from the cab via the ISOBUS user interface, which allows quick and precise management of all machine functions thanks to its clean and intuitive graphics. Functions controllable via ISOBUS include the “XCut” cutting system, which can operate with 8 to 26 knives depending on the desired chop length, and bale weight programming when the optional weighing system is installed.

At the end of the baling process, there are two possibilities. Without wrapping, the bale is deposited quickly in the field without shocks or impacts. In combined versions, the bale is transferred safely and rapidly to the wrapping table via a dedicated lifting system. From that point, wrapping is handled by twin arms operating at up to 36 rotations per minute, matching the baler’s performance.

It is also worth noting the availability of the optional “Krone SmartBale App,” which allows certification of each bale’s production date, location, and weight, while also generating a field map that can be used to streamline and speed up subsequent collection.

Machine and data at your fingertips

The “ComPack Pro” models are also new in terms of design, with a more aggressive and streamlined look compared to the past. They build on extensive experience that has enabled further technological and functional developments, starting with digital features made available by onboard electronics and accessible through Krone’s monitor interfaces. These provide a rational on-screen organization of information, made particularly intuitive by clear and consistent icons, with graphics enhanced by 3D animations that dynamically display machine status and processes.

Menus are consistent and interconnected, allowing users to navigate easily between them. As mentioned in the main article, Krone’s digital platform also enables production certification and can integrate images from cameras used to monitor the working area. Another distinctive feature is the new integrated system for dosing additives during bale formation. These products are essential for improving lactic fermentation in silage, creating an acidic environment that prevents the formation of molds, yeasts, and clostridia.

In addition, preventing abnormal fermentation avoids forage heating, ensuring more palatable, digestible, and nutritious feed for livestock. The “ComPack Pro” models offer two 120-liter tanks, and additive dosing is modulated based on bale weight and moisture content, automatically stopping during wrapping operations.

Krone ComPack Pro: Clean pickup and precise cutting

The “ComPack Pro” machines ensure maximum cleanliness and precise control of the size of plant fragments entering the baling chamber. This is achieved through a pickup derived from the Krone “EasyFlow” series, capable of collecting field material while minimizing losses and feeding it evenly into the chamber via the “XCut” cutting rotor.

The rotor distributes the collected forage across its full working width using spiral-arranged tines, then chops the material into fragments of 64 or 42 millimeters depending on whether the system uses 17 or 26 knives. The machine can also adjust cutting length according to crop type by activating different knife groups. In the 17-knife setup, combinations of 8 or 9 knives are possible, while in the 26-knife version, half the knives can be used.

In both cases, the rotor can be disengaged, allowing uncut material to be fed directly into the chamber. All knives can be hydraulically engaged or disengaged from the cab via a dedicated actuator. They are individually protected against foreign object impacts and can be quickly and easily replaced if damaged.

Just one pass is enough

The “ComPack CV 150 XC Pro” model is the core component of the “Swadro BaleTrain TC 880 Pro” system, which combines a windrower with a baler-wrapper. Both machines are managed via Krone’s onboard digital platform and, when operating together, allow windrowing, pickup, baling, and wrapping to be completed in a single pass.

The system begins with a specially adapted two-rotor “Swadro TC 880” windrower and concludes with the “ComPack CV 150 XC Pro” round baler.
