Efficient and precise, the new generation of Horsch “Pronto 9 DC” seed drills expands the company’s product range and positions itself as the ideal solution for contractors and large cereal-growing farms

Agritechnica 2025 marks the debut of the new generation of Horsch “Pronto 9 DC” seed drills, top-of-the-line models that reach an operating width of nine meters and can be hydraulically folded to within the three-meter limit required for road transport without escorts. Ideal for contractors and large-scale arable farms, these machines combine seeding with shallow soil cultivation performed by 46-centimeter discs with an aggressive design that thoroughly mix the top few centimeters of soil.
A 78-centimeter rubber packer is then responsible for reconsolidating the seedbed surface after the discs pass, immediately followed by “Turbodisc” double-disc coulters capable of exerting 125 kilograms of pressure on the soil—or, alternatively, “ParaDisc” coulters featuring a parallelogram design that, with up to 150 kilograms of maximum pressure, are particularly suited to maintaining consistent seeding depth even on heavy, stony soils.

In both cases, thanks to proper refinement and levelling of the seedbed, seed placement is consistently uniform both in depth and spacing along the rows.
The result is high operational precision that boosts productivity—an aspect further enhanced by the presence of a dual 6,000-liter hopper (1,000 liters more than the previous generation) and by the downforce exerted by the seeding elements, which can reach 200 kilograms in the “PPF” configuration—an acronym for “Precision Placement Fertilizer.” This system allows the simultaneous placement of granular fertilizer immediately below the seed line, drawing from the split hopper in a 40:60 ratio.
The increased hopper capacity enables an operating autonomy of more than 20 hectares, assuming an indicative durum wheat seeding rate of 220 kilograms per hectare and a bulk density of approximately 800 kilograms per cubic meter. The stability of the seeding units allows working speeds of up to 20 km/h, making the “Pronto 9 DC” seed drills ideal for prepared soils as well as minimum-till or direct-seeding conditions.
Clear Objectives

Christoph Von Starck, Horsch’s Global Sales Manager, is the person best positioned to describe the company’s future distribution strategies in Italy.
“Horsch is known worldwide for the quality and reliability of its large-scale machinery, designed for highly structured farms and contractors. However, the same design and engineering capabilities also underpin a portfolio that includes equipment with three-meter working widths and mounted or trailed sprayers suitable for medium-power tractors in the 120–150 hp range. This allows even smaller farms to benefit from the performance and operational capabilities typical of our equipment.
At present, our machines are available in Italy through a network of 15 dealerships supported by a sales and marketing manager whose excellent command of Italian allows her to interact effectively with both the dealers and the end users, understanding their needs and tailoring our equipment to specific local conditions.

In practice,” continues Christoph Von Starck, “Horsch aims to sell highly customized machinery, adapting each machine to the customer’s requirements. This strategy will affect our seeding, tillage, and mechanical weed-control equipment, and will also extend to sprayers, a true new entry for the Italian market.
Alongside these efforts, we are working to ensure operators have rapid access to spare parts—an objective pursued by supporting dealerships directly and equipping them with adequate inventories, especially of wear parts. When an unusual spare part is needed, our parts warehouse in Bavaria—just beyond the Alps—comes into play. Operating 24 hours a day, it ensures constant availability of all necessary components.”
