Mitas Granterra is the new line of tires for high- and ultra-high-power tractors unveiled last November at Agritechnica by Mitas, a brand belonging to the Yokohama TWS group.
The new tires combine “VF” (Very High Flexion) certification with “PFO” (Pressure Field Operation) approval
From “IF” to “VF” and now to “VF-PFO”: three acronyms that encapsulate years of advanced research and development by leading tire manufacturers to create products capable of combining high load capacity and field traction with strong environmental compatibility. This objective has been pursued by continuously pushing the limits of sidewall flexibility to maximize the tire’s footprint, supported by structures designed to perform effectively even at low inflation pressures.
“IF” (Increased Flexion) certified tires were the pioneers, allowing the same load capacity at inflation pressures 20 percent lower than standard tires. “VF” (Very High Flexion) technology later extended this capability to 40 percent lower pressures. Now Mitas takes a further step forward with its new “Granterra” tires, certified “VF-PFO.” The second designation, “Pressure Field Operation,” highlights the presence of a reinforced carcass and an innovative tread design—features engineered to deliver maximum performance where it matters most: in the field.
Every detail of the tire has been developed to maximize traction, protect the soil, and ensure consistent performance even under the most demanding working conditions. The deep tread pattern maintains grip and traction on soft or uneven terrain, even at low inflation pressures. Meanwhile, the effective tread width enhances stability by distributing the load evenly, reducing soil compaction and extending tire life.
Additional reinforcement between the lugs increases resistance to stubble damage, prevents premature aging, and ensures long-term performance consistency. VF-PFO technology, for its part, guarantees responsiveness both in terms of the operator’s traction demands and soil protection—an aspect that over time supports productivity by promoting more sustainable farming practices.
At present, the new Mitas “Granterra” tires are available in the VF 710/75R42 PFO size, with plans already in place to expand the range over time to cover all dimensions used on high-power machinery.
