The 27 European Union member states have given final approval to the package of support measures for the Eu wine sector.
The new rules include production control measures, increased financial coverage against climate risks, and the updating of the names of low-alcohol or non-alcoholic wines, introducing terms such as “alcohol-free” or “reduced alcohol content.”
Further changes include the possibility for Member States to increase support for investments related to combating the effects of climate change up to 80 percent of eligible costs, and Ue funds can be used at the discretion of individual countries for the permanent removal of vines to stabilize production.
Finally, the maximum national support for wine distillation and grape harvesting has been set at 25 percent for each Member State, while the expiration of the planting rights regime has been eliminated and replaced with a ten-year review period.
